today is (surprise) another massive storm in boston. Chris had school canceled (teaching) which is nice, considering he no longer at to wake up at 6, but rather 9. i had to trek to campus to tutor people (read: one person that actually came) on the International Phonetic Alphabet, now I'm at work until 2 before grabbing coffee with Jen.

last night was fun in that Christopher, Melanie and I walked over to Brighton Center for a drink at Deep Ellum. this week the cocktail issue of 'stuff @ nite' came in, highlighting fun cocktails from several dozen boston area bars. one, entitled 'the blue moon' from Deep Ellum picked my interest - it was a blend of plymouth gin, creme de violette, and lemon juice. i obviously love gin, but i also love any flowery liqueur like st. germaine, so i really was excited for this 'creme de violette'. while tasty, lemon was the predominant flavor - i want to try to make it at home now. apparently the liqueur was very hard to come by in the U.S. and not really even available until 2007. there's a liquor store on newbury that claims to have it so i might just have to head there!

mel and i have decided to try to explore Allston a little more by dedicating one evening a week to just going to a new bar for a drink. apparently the best white russians in boston are right over on western ave for only $5 - that is our next stop.!

i've started to learn German thanks to my friend Matt. Every Monday we are getting together for a language exchange where I teach him Spanish and he teaches me German. it is going to be very fun and very practical for when i visit him in Germany next year - provided we get our fulbrights of course. in the meantime i am hoping to orchestrate a german-themed dinner with lots of beer and sausage - i think it will be quite nice for a cold winter's day.

hopefully the rest of this week goes by quickly. my BU class is cancelled tomorrow, so I just have my two classes, plus IPA tutoring. then friday just GSAS and another tutoring session. i am excited for half-priced burgers at JTree friday night before going out!
