I'm not really in the mood to keep talking about San Francisco since it was so long ago now, but the rest of the trip was wonderful. After Professor Thomas' presentation we rented a zipcar and drove across the Golden Gate Bridge and zipped around Sausalito before heading back to the city so Bryan could get his stuff together and head to the airport. Since my flight wasn't until much later I wandered aimlessly about the shopping district and ended up with a beautiful Ben Sherman long grey coat. Though out of my budget, that's what credit cards are for...and I needed it...and I love it. I am very happy to see that a Ben Sherman store is opening up on Newbury as well!
This new semester has been going very well so far, though I guess I have a little bit more work than anticipated. In my field methods course we are currently investigating the African language Medumba from Cameroon. Basically starting from no knowledge of the language other than having a native speaker present, we are establishing its phonology, morphology, etc. etc. etc. And since it is a tonal language it makes it that much more hardcore.
My other classes seem fun - it is great to speak Spanish in the classroom again, particularly with Ines there, too. Bryan is the TA for Language & Ethnicity, adding a fun dimension, and I get to lead some IPA tutorials outside of class a few hours a week. I feel more like a real graduate student this semester I suppose. I'll also be starting to teach English once a week to kids at a local Catholic school through the BC Neighborhood Center - I have my orientation next week.
Fulbright notifications come out at the end of next week...first round at least. If things don't work out they better reject me now so I have ample time to figure out what I am doing with my life next year. There are talks of a 4-bedroom further into the city with Mo, Mel, and Lauren which would in all honesty be awesome. That coupled with a Spanish Teaching Fellowship that would pay for my tuition and give me 15K would make for a really great year methinks...but not quite as great as living in Europe and speaking Catalan all day ;-)
mmk i keep getting distracted by other things like signing up for Netflix so I shall update again in the next couple days
