Well the year is almost over and April has certainly flown by!
Last weekend Christopher and i spent a wonderful long weekend in D.C. The upper 70-degree weather made me want summer so badly! The city itself was gorgeous and felt a lot bigger than Boston despite its small size. If I decide to do a PhD program I could totally see myself at Georgetown. Seeing Mo, Dane, and their friend Leah was also great - they took us to two fun places for dinner, one of which had a ridiculous 7 day a week 11:30pm-8:30pm happy hour. $4.75 for 32oz of Blue Moon? YES PLEASE.
Unfortunately our lovely weekend came at a price, that being quite the ordeal in getting home. Our return flight monday night was cancelled along with all other options to get back to the northeast that night. We were rebooked for an 8am flight the next morning and were able to stay at Mo's house that night, which was very generous on her family's part. Then of course we wake up and that new flight is cancelled. Finally we made if back on a 10:25 (though it was delayed) direct flight back to Boston.
In all of that bullshit there was something that made it all worthwhile - when i finally was able to check my email monday night at mo's house, i noticed an email from the fulbright commission from Andorra - I had gotten the grant! Obviously the news comes with somewhat mixed emotions, particularly with being away from Chris for 10 months, but at the moment I'm more focused on the excitement of a year-long European adventure! I'm getting paid 13,000 Euros for the 10 months, plus they are paying my flights from here and back. I think it's a sweet deal. I'm also leaving a week early, most likely August 22nd, to spend a week with Ines at her house in Alcoi, near La Costa Blanca in southeast Spain. should be quite the adventure!
Lou is here this weekend, so once i get off work ima meet him and mel downtown for some shopping on this gorgeous day!

Easter break!
Well break has been enjoyable so far - Wednesday Melanie and I finally got to see the apartment we signed on. I am legitimately pleased and excited to move there come June 1st (hopefully sooner). We picked Robbie up from Happy Hour and watched 'Disaster Movie' whilst having dinner and pregaming for the evening. We got to the Park Plaza where Scott was staying around 9:15 and pregamed for a bit before heading out to Rumor. The Absolut Mango we brought was quite interesting - it legit smelled like a mixture of sweat and deodorant, not yet to the point of b.o. but certainly rather unpleasant. Rumor was fun, though the 30 dollar cab ride home was truly heinous.
Dragged my ass to BU thursday morning for class, then went to the gym before finishing packing and getting ready for Logan. Melanie drove me to the airport, and all in all I had a drama-free early-arriving flight. After landing the fam and me went to Flaming's, a Mexican seafood restaurant for an early dinner. I had the mahi-mahi encrusted in a crab meat crust - quite good. That night I was pretty low-key: went to Caribou with Andy, then watched a British movie I forgot the name of.
Friday I woke up to lox and bagels, then went shopping with my sister to Nordstrom Rack. I realized today that the jeans I bought are actually women's, lol, but whatever - they were a great deal and fit nicely. That night was Kasia and my dual bday celebration, attended my myself, Andy, Kasia, Ben, Ben's sister and bf, Krzysiu, Nicole, Goda, and Brian. Twas a grand 'ole time with plenty of food, libation, and other indulgences. We had a great Polish flag cake to end the evening, and by 1:30 when we left I was ready to pass the f out.
Today I pretty much just chilled aside from going to bless baskets. I love how Slavic I am when I come home - two thirds of everything I've consumed this break has been Polish. By far the best is my Mom's invention from growing up, her "super duper sandwiches" that her family ate after blessing baskets every Holy Saturday. It is simply rye bread, butter, fresh polish sausage, red and white horseradish, and hard-boiled egg all piled up and eaten open-faced. Washed down with a nice Polish beer it is perfect lunch. Other than that it's been pickled herring, marinated mushrooms, red barszcz, Wawel chocolate, and Belvedere with Apple Mint juice. Swietnie!
Tonight I am going to the Easter Vigil mass. Fuck me. Nothing like three hours of fruitless indoctrination. Of course I "have the option of not going", but that just means being scorned by my father. Blehhhhh. I need some ham.

Hurray for four day weeks!
I can't believe its already April! Luckily it has been in the 50s lately, unlike the horrible snow back in Chicago! I think I would die if it snowed again. I just hope I don't fly home to a snowy Easter on Thursday. I just LOVE flight delays!
This past weekend was really fun despite all the money I dropped. Friday night I made calzones (delish!) before going out to Beacon Hill Pub with Chris, Kristen, 315, etc. The place is in Beacon Hill, so its obviously in a gorgeous area, but it is essentially Mary Anne's even more ghetto sister. It's grungy, cash only, has some arcade games, its cramped, dirty bathrooms, etc. I had fun nonetheless - $3 Brubakers are always a good deal.
Saturday morning Chris and I got DDs before I headed downtown to meet up with Mel and our friend Mo who was in from Virginia for the weekend. We did some shopping (I got new sandals) and then hit up the market for fruits, veggies, and fish- $6 for 2lbs of salmon! We made a southwestern themed dinner that night with cilantro-lime-chile-garlic salmon, a mango-corn-blackbean salad, and brown rice. We washed it down with the new UFO White beer which was delicious! Meanwhile we had fresh fruit soaking in rum, peach, schnapps, and ginger ale, which served as our pregame later on.
That night we first headed to Ben and Erin's new place in the North End. It is sweeet and has a roof deck that looks out at skyline. I am sooo pumped to hang out and grill/whatever there over the summer. After that we headed over to Hennessy's - I never want to go there but always end up having fun. Chris and I met the only other gay at the bar and ended up dancing and hanging out with him and his faghags in tow. Chris was blackout again and quite amusing with his dance moves. Made a quick stop at Natalie's for some mozzarella sticks, then went to bed.
Sunday we decided to go to Providence for the day since neither of us had ever been other than driving through it. Parts of the city are gorgeous, namely where Brown is located, the state Capitol building, etc. The whole city had gone over this huge overhaul over the past couple decades, but a large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line. I must say it was a bit sketch around the bus station. We had a good lunch (veal saltimbocca) at a place in their large Italian section, Federal Hill. All in all it was a nice afternoon despite my bleeding feet thanks to being a moron and wearing new sandals out all day.
And as for this week...
Today I work til 2, then teach English at Trinity Catholic. I bought them some peeps and cadbury eggs to teach them about Easter. I'm sure they've already been spoon fed enough Catholic bullshit about it, though. Last week I saw worksheets about how Jesus "revolutionalized" marriage, and questions asking them to describe their ideal spouse, etc. I can only imagine the poor gay kids in class and how awkward that is.
Tomorrow I have class at BU then class at BC. I had a paper due for BU but we got an extension since our last elicitation session didn't record. I'll still need to type up a lil something for tomorrow to hold the prof over. Chris, Mel, and I are hoping to go see 'I love you man' tomorrow night.
Wednesday I just work at BC 11-2, then I'm pretty much free the rest of the day. I'll probably do laundry, get a haircut, and pack for home. Gots to make sure I'm all pretty for Jesus!
Thursday I have class at BU, then head to Logan for my flight home!
That's about it - hopefully I'll hear today if we got the Beacon St. apartment...and maybe fulbright this week?...seriously...

apahtments
why is looking for apartments so fucking annoying? this morning mel and i looked at a really great apartment - hardwood floors, the rooms were massive, tons of light, high ceilings, 2 bathrooms including one attached to a bedroom, half fee, right on the C-line, etc. too good to be true? of course! it is a fucking block or so from cleveland circle...
i keep going back and forth with this. it's not like cleveland circle is such a shithole - i did live there a few summers ago and a had a blast, but i was an undergraduate. then again we are far enough removed from undergrads on their booze runs or blackout eating at presto's. the c line is so much better than the b, and i would be close to campus for (hopefully) working somewhere at bc this summer. washington square is 3 stops up, and coolidge is only a few after that. if i am trapped in this godforsaken country next year, i would be close to bc for classes, et cetera et cetera...
but if i am stuck here for the year, will a really nice apartment satisfy me? i want to be able to walk out and go to brunch somewhere fun, go to the market, go out for a drink. basically i need to live downtown or in the south end somewhere. i don't want someone to find me hanging from the high ceilings of this apartment.
one the bright side i am looking at two apartments in the south end tonight at 545 with lauren. one is right on mass. ave., with washington as the cross street. the other is on E. concord. while both are a little removed from the part of the south end i like best, i am praying that one of these places is legit and we can just effing sign the lease.

hi, it's me!
haven't updated in 3-ish weeks...oops! it's a gloomy rainy morning here in Boston, though tomorrow it's in the mid-50s and partly cloudy so I can't complain too much.
the weekend was really fun, starting with Deutsches Essen on Friday night at Bryan and Peter's. for no particular reason we had planned an evening of German food and drink and finally made it happen. the menu included 3 types of sausages, kraut, goulash, the German equivalent of mizeria, kartoffelpuffen, pickles, a pate with pumpernickel, and then some kinder products and black forest cake for dessert. for trinken we started with some Riesling and then moved onto 4 different german beers. seht gut! it was a nice chill evening with good friends, and also the first opportunity for us to meet matt's new bf/lp/significant other. i think the evening was largely a success, despite the consumption of some 30,000 calories. i can't wait to plan the next international evening! reminded me of our linguistics international food & drink nights :*-(
saturday was mel and my 'make your own pizza party' with an array of doughs and toppings for everyone to choose from. i made a standard red sangria and then a white peach one, both of which came out well methinks. it was quite the mix of people, including lauren's friend from home who is at bc law, and melanie's most recent lover, also of bc law. it was one of those drink since 5pm days and maintain a nice buzz turned end-of-the-night 180 to blackout while playing foosball at 'Our House', but all in all it was a success.
I really needed a fun weekend after a hellish week full of work. i didn't go to the gym at all on account of having papers/projects due for every class and even a project for my job. i am proud of my handling it, particularly my catalan/spanish phonology paper where i managed to track down a bunch of Catalan-speakers to record. one of them was from andorra and apparently knows the head of the fulbright committee there. he told me that if i had any questions he could ask said man. ummm....how about if i am getting the fulbright?!!? the wait continues to kill me, so i won't bother getting into that.
it's funny how the semester is almost over - april is already more or less booked between going home for easter, the weekend in DC, then lou's visit the weekend after. crazy! with the end of april also comes the end of classes - i'm halfway done with my Master's? weeeiiiiird. now i just need to figure out where i'm living for the summer and where i'm working. i've applied for an ESL job at Simmons College but have yet to hear back from them...BC posts jobs on April 1st, so hopefully I can work in the Slavic Department again or some other crap like that. We'll see!
This week is looking pretty low key. I agreed to help a professor with a talk on Thursday of course not realizing that I had class during it. That seems to be the only drama.

adeu, spring break
well i guess "spring" break is over, with two warm sunny days to cap it off. tomorrow we're dropping 30 degrees and will be greeted with rain and snow aka wintry mix. FML for real - i hate boston weather more and more.
despite my being trapped in Allston, it was lovely to have a low key week sans bc classes. i ended up only having BU once thanks to my professor being sick, so that was a pleasant surprise thursday morning. i put in two hours at gsas monday thru thursday - the hours were annoying, but i'm not going to complain; $$$=good.
i finally saw Slumdog Millionare with Chris on Tuesday night. looking back on it I like it more and more, though its hard to be amazed when everyone says it is god's gift to movies, it wins the Oscar, etc. i really enjoyed the movie's layout as a series of past events relating to each question on who wants to be a millionare. the music is also obviously great - i've had the soundtrack for a few months now.
wednesday during the day chris and i just chilled. we went to the Armenian grocery for some stuff (including Rose syrup for my turkish delight drink!) and then baked these really tasty cookies. That night we were invited to ines' for dinner, joined by ana, leticia, esteban, and carlos. we had tortilla and pisto along with some cheeses. it ended up being a shitshow thanks to sangria, port, vino verde, and rum and coke. i must say i've never had a rum and coke quite so delicious. perhaps it was because someone from the Caribbean made them :-)
the weekend wasn't overly exciting - friday we pregamed at Kristen's co-worker Jessie's, then went to a fundraiser at Bell in Hand. Thanks to Chris forgetting his ID, debit card, etc. upon going to the next bar, it ended up being a whole fiasco cabbing back and forth and whatnot. we ended up just T-ing it back and ordering chinese. a similar thing happened saturday night after ned devine's with melanie. we were blowing so much money and not feeling intoxicated enough to have fun so we T'd it back and got pizza and mozzarella sticks at natalie's. i now must starve all week.
on account of the beautiful weather yesterday i did force myself to go out and do something, so i decided to do some shopping on newbury and at copley. the ben sherman store STILL isn't open, and i really just ended up hating most of the stuff at the places i went to. club monaco still has my vest...and its still $100. BLEH. i ended up just buying some Matevana tea at teavana - at least the cashier guy was cute. basically it was all a bust, and i hated the hordes of people out and about, particularly the hipster-esque scumbags that seem to be taking over the city. VOM.
this day is already tedious. i have to teach English after school at Trinity Catholic tomorrow but have no idea what to do and no direction. great!

stormy weather
well sure enough we're in the midst of another huge snow storm. i've heard up to 15 inches overnight thru tomorrow. chris' school was canceled tomorrow, and we're hoping that bc is kind enough to close its doors as well. bc almost never closes, but since the majority of that issue lies with canceling classes, and its spring break, its a definitely possibility. while all the bc kids are sunning and boozing below the equator (or gallivanting in Europe), the university could at least let the rest of us sit on our asses and enjoy a day off.
as for my weekend, friday night chris and i went out with his sociology people, quite an eclectic bunch if i do say so myself. we had his friend katie over for wine and cheese beforehand, then met up with the others at roadhouse for some bbq. i was satisfied with the bbq beef brisket sandwich, but not overjoyed. i really did enjoy their beer list, however, which is quite extensive with tons of american microbrews and the like. needless to say i had a nice buzz going throughout the meal. afterwards we headed back to chris' for some more drinks and conversation and ended up calling it a night before heading out anywhere.
saturday we ventured southwest to wrentham to hit up the outlet malls. the highlight was definitely the william sonoma outlet, which is essentially pure glory. had i the funds, i could have dropped hundreds of dollars on discounted merchandise from an ice cream machine to a fondue set. i kept it simple and purchased a small food processor, something i've been wanting for a long time. other purchases included some polos and socks at ralph lauren and a yankee candle.
instead of heading straight home we drove an extra hour to his parents' rhode island cottage which is finally all furnished and ready to go! we are already planning our rhode island weekends, including a gay lovers weekend with bryan and peter, and hopefully matt and celso (if they become a legit couple lol). i'm anticipating some delicious cooking, lounging and tanning on the beach, drinks at sunset on the porch, etc. etc. we went out with his parents to a restaurant called 'turtle soup' which was quite nice. i had the scallops which were delicious. back in MA we just chilled at dwight and waited for kristen to get back for her skiing adventure before calling it a night.
today was fairly underwhelming. breakfast - grocery shopping - gym - tv - brothers and sisters 2 hour movie event...tomorrow isn't looking too incredible either, though i do plan on making a cauliflower walnut soup with the help of my food processor! i just hope i can make it down the street to pick up some milk for it.
